Studio Diary - 01/23/2001
Pete Trewavas:Hi. It's now Tuesday 23rd of January. We have finished recording bass and drums, and have played at NAMM and are now recording some vocals at Neal's house. The Namm concert went really well. We were using a brand new Turbo sound system and the monitors were great and apparently it was good out front. We were very pleased at getting Rich who mixed SMPTe, to mix the sound for us, which also gave me a chance to meet him, for the first time.
We flew down to LA on Friday afternoon and went to the Coach house in San Juan, that evening to see a guitar extraveganza put on by Ernie Ball. John Petrucci, Steve Morse, Steve Lukather, and a few others were all on stage at various times, and then Dixie Dregs played a set. There was also a set with the bass player from the Dregs, another bassist, and Tony Levin, who I got to meet which was a highlight for me, as I've respected his playing for years.
We also ended up getting a lift back to our hotel with John and Steve Lukather, which was very kind of them.
The saturday was a day spent looking round the trade fair for me, which was an amazing experience, as it is the biggest music trade fair in the world apparently, and I have no reason to doubt that, having walked all the way round. I particularly went to the Laney stand, as they supply me with gear all round the world and, I was going to be using, one of their new B1 bass amps and cab's. Then we sound checked at between 4-6pm. and the show was at 7.30.
Next morning Neal, Roine and myself were flying back to Nashville at 8.45 in the morning which was quite hard to get up for. but we managed it with our guitars an' all. Mike had a flight back to New York at around 11am.
Tomorrow we go to another studio to record Piano for a song called a bridge across forever, and probably more vocals, if we get chance.
